INFORMATION SCIENCES GETS A NEW DEAN

School of Information Sciences, entrance

Professor Justus Wamukoya is the new dean of School of Information Sciences after the university council of appointment board approved his application. He comes in to replace the outgoing dean Prof. Japheth Otike who has served for a three years term.

Prof. Wamukoya is a renowned pioneer professor and researcher in the field of Records and Archives Management in the East African region. He has several degrees from different universities such as University of Nairobi (BA English Literature, linguistics), university of London, just to mention a few. He has also served as a senior lecturer for six years in the University of Botswana.

Among other applicants were:
o   Prof. Japheth Otike (outgoing dean, from the department of Libraries and Information Studies)
o   Prof. David Gichoya (HOD Information Technology)
o   Dr. Emily Kogos (HOD Publishing and Media Studies)

The handing over ceremony was held on Monday 4th, August and was attended by both the teaching and non teaching staff in the school of information sciences. Also present were, the former deans of the school; Prof. Odini and Prof. Rotich. The ceremony coincided with the MUISSA (Moi University Information Science Students Association), elections which were being held on the same day.

The office of the dean is a three year contract subject to renewal, based on performance. One of the qualifications is that one must be a senior lecturer and served for at least three years. As prof. Wamukoya assumes office as the new dean, much is awaiting for him basing on the fact that the school is facing a lot of challenges. Right now, there is a pending trip for the 3rd years, delayed academic results, the back to back system, among other challenges. Whether Prof. Wamukoya will deliver or not is a mystery that lies within the time aspect.Read more on www.mu.ac.ke
